I. AM. AWESOME.
Excited (Homestar Runner)
[info]eddyfate
Yesterday I sat down for most of the day and hammered through a massive conversion of MET Awakening. No more random tags showing up in game text! It was a long haul, but it was good work, and I even got to tweak a few minor things here and there. I also got to see the editor's style sheet for the manuscript, and I was very impressed with the depth of research this editor did (sadly, I didn't find a name anywhere). Odds are slim at this point that it'll hit an Origins release, but there's some exciting stuff swirling in the background about it, so I'm really hyped.

I also got in the mail what I've been working toward since August of last year -- my payment for MET Awakening (or, as I tend to call it, my motherfuckin' movie check). I have to put aside 25% for taxes, because of the joys of being a freelance writer, and another chunk gets put aside for bills, but there's still a nice chunk left over. Swag will follow.

This morning, I also got news that my submission of "Questions" got accepted! It'll be published as a flash fiction audio story on Pseudopod.org in the next three to six months. It's non-exclusive audio rights, but it's still another chunk of change about two months after I send the contract in, and it's my first fiction publication credit. I'll fax in the contract tomorrow, and I'll post here when it hits the feed. I've also been encouraged to submit more to Escape Artists, Inc. (which does both Pseudopod and Escape Pod), and I plan to do so.

Tonight I plan to watch WWE Vengence with a couple of friends, work a little more on the Mage LARP, and generally enjoy my day. I am in a damned good mood.

Thank you, Anonymous!

Updated Transformers Trailer
Cool (Transformers)
[info]eddyfate
The official Transformers movie website has an updated trailer. It's just like the last one I posted, but at the end is a spoken line from Peter Cullen (who voiced Optimus Prime in the original cartoon and now both movies).

I really, really hope this movie doesn't suck as bad as I think it might.

Casino Royale

Fuck. I have to remember to buy my Casino Royale tickets for this Friday. I cannot miss this.

Good Odds (Transformers)
[info]eddyfate
No, not the voting thing. That's important too. But today is the official release of the Transformers: The Movie 20th Anniversary Edition DVD!

I've been doing this for a while

First, read this:

LiveJournal adds userpic slots for every three months you've been a paid member.

So, I went and checked my slots. I originally have the 15 that comes standard with a paid account.

Now I have FOURTY-NINE.

(Update: Paid accounts also went up to 30 userpics, which accounts for some of that.)

Yeah, I've been doing this LiveJournal thing for a while...

Sweeney Todd
Me (Manga)
[info]eddyfate
I like pulp. I like Victorian fiction. It was only a matter of time before I discovered penny dreadfuls. And today, while surfing the net during a lull at work, I discovered that one of my favorite musicals of all time was originally a penny dreadful, and now I can get it in Palm format.

Sweeney Todd The Barber of Fleet Street

So tonight, if I do well in catching up with my homework, I'm going to reward myself with downloading Plucker and installing some ebooks from Gutenberg and Blackmask Online.

Shadowrun 4E
Game Design
[info]eddyfate
My copy of Shadowrun, Fourth Edition showed up, courtesy of the lovely and talented [info]elissa_carey. (Thank you for the book, and the wonderful signature in the front!) I didn't have time to read anything, so I just flipped through, and as usual [info]adamjury did an amazing job. As now fully two-thirds of my Shadowrun collection is due to her, I plan to sit down after reading Serenity and read SR4E once my school slows down. Which means I'll likely have another game I will want to run. A quick question to SR fans/designers: how compatable are my 3E books with 4E?

A new review of Midway City is up by the incomperable Dan Bayn:

Also, there's a thread discussing Midway City on there as well:

The books should be done at the printers, so we should have access to them really soon!

Update
Me (Manga)
[info]eddyfate
I made it to work. Let's see if I can make it through today.

The most exciting parts of my evening were me restarting my Knights of the Old Republic 1 game, getting frozen custard and managing to not get too dizzy in the car ride, and the stupidly cool 30s mugshot album that [info]adamjury showed me; it just oozes with Midway City character ideas (note: link is eBay auction, may go down in near future).

Tonight, probably a little more MC, a little more research, and a little time with [info]greebotrill. Maybe I, Claudius tonight. Dunno.

Midway City Clothing!
Me (Manga)
[info]eddyfate
Thanks to [info]karohemd, people wanting to play Midway City LARP or just look like their characters can shop for the best clothing.

You can either be a passive Mob or Triad supporter, or shop for the finest in gangster clothing, and the latter is even fully sanctioned by the Regulation Division! Is that keen or what?

Back to nomination

[info]eddyfate
Back from my dental appointments. I now have a hunk of plastic pretending to be a tooth. Luckily it was all hardware -- no cutting or bleeding or pain. I go back in two weeks to get my permanent crown, and that is done.

I got back to work to discover that, for some reason, I was nominated for the 8 Hunks of Hanukkah. I might accept my nomination, just for giggles.

Our Wednesday night Exalted game is unfortunately cancelled, so I get to spend more time tonight working on projects and researching goodness.

I COMPLETELY forgot about this forum for Cartoon Action Hour, and I found some awesome stuff on there, including this:

We're in Wikipedia!

[info]eddyfate
In the entry on Spring-Heeled Jack in Popular Culture, there's a reference at the very bottom of the section to Omlevex! Upon further examination, there's also a separate Omlevex entry, as well as one for Cartoon Action Hour and Spectrum Games! How cool is that?

IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!
Me (Manga)
[info]eddyfate
After receiving the motherboard and processor transplant, the patient is recovering well. It is already 99% active (after a tranfusion of Windows XP over the original harddrive), and after a few nicks and scraps to get it fully working again, the patient should be back to normal. I might consider backing up the patient's vital data and starting with a fresh install, just to be on the safe side, should these niggling problems not work out.

Or, in plain english, after almost a god-damned month, I have my computer back. And it fucking screams.

Catching up
Me
[info]eddyfate
So, long stories short.

Requiem: Fun. Had some slow spots, but I was suitably entertained. The politics of the city just got a LOT more interesting, and I'm looking forward to how it all shakes out.

Midway City: Sent the last of the edits off, as well as the Afterword. All I have to do is work on the character sheet, and poke at the final layout draft, and then it's off to the printer.

Computer: After a lengthy diagnosis session with Dr. [info]onecrane and Dr. [info]garchangel, it appears the patient is suffering from a defective motherboard. Next step is to contact the place we got the motherboard from and request a replacement, which means more delays. Still, we're sure that most every other part works fine (the processor might be a bit sketchy, but I could stand to upgrade that anyhow in the distant future). At least we got to hang out with [info]onecrane and [info]mrogre, so all was not lost.

Map Case: The Czech map case I ordered two months ago finally arrived yesterday. It's big enough to hold a hardback gaming book or textbook of moderate size (say, around 400 pages), and currently holds my character sheet (in the flap pocket), a pencil and pen in the left side loops, two flat pens (a gift of [info]banzaigrrl's) in the right loop, the WoD MET Draw Deck in the right pocket, my sunglasses and a deck of cards in the front bottom pocket, my moleskin and PDA in the smaller inner pocket, the first Baker Street graphic novel in the thin big pocket, and The Fountainhead in the thick big pocket.

Fable: I'm going to go back to it. Like, now.

Walking stick
Me (Manga)
[info]eddyfate
So I get home yesterday to find that [info]greebotrill had opened a box directed to me. Inside I find a walking stick with a brass head and a clock in it (as pictured here):

It was a completely unexpected gift, and soon to be a very treasured one (as soon as I can get the clock working).

Thank you, [info]princessdiablo, for thinking of me.
