Today is a special day, a day to celebrate the birth of the most wonderful woman in the world, my wife Michelle (greebotrill).

I have previously gone on at length about the awesomeness of being able to marry my best friend, the woman that completes me. We have been together for over a decade and married for over eight, and while the relationship has naturally changed as we've gotten older, I still simply cannot envision a life without her.

Michelle, you are my partner, my strength, my fantasy, my support, my cheerleader, my protector, my fury, and I love you. I am so proud of what you've accomplished, and I eager await how far you can go. I know how much you've brought into my life, and I can only hope that the world can appreciate a fraction of that.

That subject still feels a little weird to me, but it's true -- I have people who are fans of me and my work. For some reason, a lot of it all came in this week, and in a variety of forms.

I do not often take a moment to enjoy praise -- very often I deflect it onto my co-workers and freelancers who do an amazing job taking my hair-brained ideas and making them into an awesome reality -- but this kind of feedback really helps to keep me going.

You guys are awesome. Thank you so much for sticking with me and supporting me over the years.

The reason this is late is the first reason I'm thankful -- I'm thankful that BioWare produced Mass Effect. Seriously, at this rate, I should just buy everything BioWare produces.

I actually debated not doing this, because I have so much that I'm thankful for this year that I'm almost guaranteed to forget something. So, let me try to cover it in a few large chunks:

I'm thankful for my family and friends, for supporting me and being there for me through a very chaotic time.

I'm thankful for my old job, for being great to me for years and supportive of my career choices.

I'm thankful for my new job, for giving me an opportunity I didn't even know existed six months ago.

I'm thankful for my doctors, for doing everything they can to promote my health.

And I'm thankful for all of you, who still take the time to read the inane crap I put up here. :)

EDDY WEBB AND SPECTRUM GAMES PART WAYS

After a fruitful four-year tenure as Spectrum Games' Vice-President, Eddy Webb is stepping away from the company.   It is an amicable split with no hard feelings.  In fact, Eddy and Spectrum President Cynthia Celeste Miller remain great friends.

"This was a very hard decision," says Eddy, "because my time with Spectrum has been so fantastic.  However, both my personal life and my creative interests have been moving into a different direction than RPG design and writing.  However, gaming is still a very large part of my life, and I suspect that I'll get the itch again at some point down the road.  Now, however, I have different priorities."

The door is always open for Eddy, should he decide to return to Spectrum in the future, something which he says is indeed a possibility.

"Eddy has been such an asset to the company since he was hired in 2002.  I honestly can't even begin to tell you how much work the man has done.  You won't find a harder worker, a more devoted Vice-President, and a more loyal friend anywhere in the world than Eddy Webb.  His value to Spectrum cannot possibly be measured.   So, I'd like to take this opportunity to personally thank him for everything he has done.  His contributions will be missed."

Angstgiving is pretty much over now (although technically not; monkeegoth and his wife are downstairs in the living room with garchangel and greebotrill while J.S. plays with the XBox and Puck continues his nap). All of my local Tribe, as well as a few new faces and some from out of town, came out to participate in our "friends as family" Thanksgiving celebration. There was tons of incredibly awesome homemade food, entertaining conversations, good (and not so good) wine, card and video games, and a feeling of community and warmth that had faded as everyone dealt with the various curves and blows that life has dealt in the last few months. We laugh, we cry, and sometimes we get on each other's nerves, but this is my family, as much than those I am related to, and for that I am thankful.

Did some more poking and editing at MCLARP -- nothing major, but trimmed down redundancy and added a third system I'm still debating on. Since it was mostly editing, I'll use my editing wordcount today.

Work was difficult today, and wore me out. Afterwards I basically flopped on the couch and played Jade Empire for four hours. I didn't plan to, but my body just wasn't up to anything more strenuous. Also started reading my Oxford NRSV -- very exciting. I'm such a geek for well-designed reference books.

Got a very nice (and unexpected) card from Mr. and Mrs. secret_fire. It's strange: a decision made by neither of us over two and a half years ago caused us to not speak to one another for some time, but since they've both come back into our lives, I've realized that I treasure them greatly. It's amazing what a couple of years will help you to realize about yourself and the world around you. Thank you, secret_fire, and I hope that I can spend more "quality time" with you and yours this time.

But, I'm still not well, and the day has taken its toll on me.

Yesterday, after I wrote up 49 more notecards, greebotrill, garchangel, and I watched the first four episodes of Lost. Not bad, but not yet the "OH MY GOD YOU MUST WATCH THIS" show people say it is. Nice use of in media res, though. Also started reading The Portrait of Dorian Grey again, and having a much more entertaining time with this attempt, even if Oscar Wilde is a radical gear-shift from melodramatic hopeful romance.

Yesterday was an important day to remember... the anniversary of two very important women in my life. Thank you both for continuing to be a part of my life as well as a part of each other's.

Now I bend my back and start to work, but I am utterly exhausted. Most of this week I need to get into a nice work pattern, because after next Friday my ability to work is going to be a bit fuzzy for a couple of weeks.

As work swallows my soul, I am compelled to meme.
